Air Compressor Price Guide

This air compressor price guide puts real numbers on the table. We have collected current price ranges from Indian B2B marketplaces and published industry references, organized them by compressor type and size, and explained what pushes a price up or down. You will also see how the purchase price compares with the electricity bill a compressor runs up over its life, because that is where most of the money goes.

Times Marketing Pvt. Ltd. has supplied and serviced Atlas Copco compressed air equipment since 1988. The ranges below reflect the wider Indian market, not only our own products, so you can use them to benchmark any quote you receive.

A quick note before the numbers: every price here is indicative. Prices change with steel costs, exchange rates, brand, specification and region, and most listings quote the machine alone, before 18% GST, delivery, installation and air treatment. Treat these ranges as a starting point for a conversation with a supplier, not as a final figure.

Air Compressor Price in India at a Glance

The table below summarizes the typical air compressor price in India by category, based on listings and published references from 2026.

Compressor type Typical size Indicative price range (machine only)
Small piston (single-stage, local brands) 1–3 HP ₹15,000 – ₹65,000
Branded small piston 2–5 HP ₹69,000 – ₹1.25 lakh
Piston, 5 HP 5 HP ₹41,000 – ₹1.25 lakh
Two-stage piston / tandem piston 7.5–20 HP ₹1.8 lakh – ₹4.5 lakh
Entry rotary screw 5–15 HP ₹95,000 – ₹2.5 lakh
Mid-size rotary screw 20–50 HP ₹2 lakh – ₹6.5 lakh
Large rotary screw 60–100 HP ₹5.3 lakh – ₹12 lakh
VSD / VSD+ screw (premium brands, 18–90 kW) 25–120 HP ₹10 lakh – ₹30 lakh
Large industrial systems 110 kW and above ₹30 lakh and above
Small oil-free piston / scroll 2–10 HP ₹75,000 – ₹3 lakh
Oil-free screw (Class 0) 30 kW and above ₹15 lakh and above

The spread inside each row is wide for a reason. A ₹40,000 screw compressor and a ₹4 lakh screw compressor are not the same machine with a different sticker. The next section explains why.

What Drives the Price of an Air Compressor

Seven factors decide where a compressor sits in the range. Understanding them helps you compare quotes on equal terms.

Compression technology

Piston (reciprocating) compressors are the cheapest way to make compressed air at small capacities. They are simple, rugged and easy to repair, but they are designed for intermittent duty. Rotary screw compressors cost more upfront but run continuously, deliver steady pressure and use less energy per unit of air at medium and large capacities. Oil-free and centrifugal designs sit at the top of the range.

Motor power and free air delivery (FAD)

Horsepower is the number most buyers compare, but free air delivery, measured in CFM or m³/min, is the number that matters. Two 10 HP compressors can deliver very different volumes of air depending on the air-end design and working pressure. When you compare prices, compare cost per CFM at your working pressure, not cost per HP.

Working pressure

Most plants run between 7 and 10 bar. Higher-pressure machines (12 bar and above, or two-stage piston units rated up to 30–40 bar for applications like PET blowing) need stronger components and cost more.

Oil-lubricated or oil-free

Oil-free compressors avoid lubricating oil in the compression chamber, which matters for pharmaceutical, food, electronics and healthcare applications. Certified ISO 8573-1 Class 0 machines carry a significant premium over oil-lubricated equivalents.

Fixed speed or variable speed drive (VSD)

A fixed-speed compressor runs at full speed and unloads when demand drops, still drawing power while it idles. A VSD air compressor adjusts motor speed to match demand. VSD models cost more at purchase, but where air demand fluctuates through the day, they usually pay back the difference through lower power bills.

Brand, build quality and controls

Branded compressors use better air-ends, higher-efficiency motors (IE3/IE4), smarter controllers and better cooling. They also come with genuine spare parts, structured service and warranty support. Unbranded machines are cheaper, but service intervals, part availability and real FAD often differ from the brochure.

Air treatment, installation and taxes

The compressor is only one part of a compressed air system. An air dryer, filters, an air receiver tank, piping, electrical work and commissioning can add 20–50% to the project cost. GST is typically charged at 18% on top of listed prices.

Piston Air Compressor Price

Piston compressors remain the default choice for garages, tyre shops, small fabrication units and any application where air is needed in bursts rather than all day.

Single-stage piston compressors (1–5 HP)

Local-brand single-stage units of 1–2 HP start at around ₹15,000 and run up to about ₹45,000 depending on tank size and build. 3 HP models typically sit between ₹34,500 and ₹65,000. The 5 HP air compressor price ranges from roughly ₹41,000 for basic models to ₹75,000–₹84,000 for units with larger 200–250 litre tanks.

Branded small piston compressors cost more. Market listings show branded 2 HP units at around ₹69,000, branded 3 HP units at ₹88,000–₹96,000 and branded 5 HP units at ₹1.17–₹1.25 lakh.

Two-stage and heavy-duty piston compressors (5–20 HP)

Two-stage piston compressors compress air in two steps with intercooling, which allows higher pressures and better efficiency. Published 2026 references place double-stage reciprocating compressors of 5–20 HP at ₹2.2–₹4.5 lakh, and single-stage or tandem piston units of 7.5–15 HP at ₹2–₹3.8 lakh. Marketplace listings for 15 HP industrial piston units start around ₹1.8 lakh.

Atlas Copco LE/LT piston compressors

Times Marketing supplies Atlas Copco LE (single-stage) and LT (two-stage) piston compressors, built with cast-iron construction for long life and available for pressures up to 40 bar. Small Atlas Copco piston compressors in the 5–15 kW class start from approximately ₹2–5 lakh. They suit auto workshops, tyre manufacturing, metal fabrication, construction support and high-pressure applications.

When a piston compressor makes sense: your plant uses air for less than 60–70% of the shift, you need high pressure in short bursts, or your total demand is below about 30–40 CFM.

Screw Air Compressor Price

Rotary screw compressors are the workhorses of Indian manufacturing. They run continuously, deliver steady pressure, and are the most common choice for automotive, textile, packaging, plastics and general engineering plants.

Entry-level screw compressors (5–15 HP)

The cheapest screw compressors on marketplaces are listed from about ₹95,000. Typical 10 HP screw compressor prices fall between ₹1 lakh and ₹1.5 lakh for local brands, while a 7.5 HP unit delivering around 24 CFM is listed at about ₹2.1 lakh. Tank-mounted screw compressors, which combine the compressor, receiver and sometimes a dryer on one skid, are popular in this class because they save floor space.

Mid-size screw compressors (20–50 HP)

This is where most small and medium factories buy. Listings show 30 HP screw compressors from about ₹2 lakh, a 25 HP model at roughly ₹4.2 lakh including GST, and a 30 HP (22 kW) variable speed compressor at about ₹4.6 lakh. Expect ₹2.5–₹6.5 lakh for local and mid-tier brands in this band.

Large screw compressors (60–100 HP)

A 60 HP screw compressor is listed at around ₹5.35 lakh, and published 2026 references place rotary screw compressors of 10–100 HP between ₹2.5 lakh and ₹12 lakh. Water-cooled versions, built-in dryers and advanced controllers push the price toward the upper end.

Atlas Copco GA rotary screw compressors and VSD+

The Atlas Copco GA series is one of the most widely used industrial compressor ranges in India. Times Marketing supplies the full line:

  • GA 5–15 (fixed speed and VSD), compact units for small and medium factories
  • GA 18–90 VSD+, high-efficiency variable speed models for mid-size operations
  • GA 110–315 VSD+, large-capacity compressors for heavy industry
  • GA 355–900+, very large industrial and utility applications

Atlas Copco rates its VSD+ technology at up to 35% energy savings compared with fixed-speed compressors. Full Feature versions come with an integrated dryer and filters, and the Elektronikon controller with SMARTLINK allows remote monitoring and predictive maintenance alerts. As a guide, mid-size Atlas Copco rotary screw compressors (18–90 kW, VSD+) fall in the ₹10–30 lakh range, and large systems above 110 kW start from about ₹30 lakh.

That is a clear premium over local screw compressors. The next section shows why many plants still find it the cheaper option over ten years.

Oil-Free Air Compressor Price

If even a trace of oil can contaminate your product, an oil-free air compressor is a requirement, not a choice. Pharmaceutical plants, food and beverage units, electronics and semiconductor manufacturers, hospitals and laboratories all fall in this group.

Small oil-free piston compressors for dental clinics and laboratories are listed from about ₹75,000 to ₹1.2 lakh. Oil-free scroll and small oil-free screw units range from roughly ₹2.8 lakh upward. Industrial oil-free screw compressors with ISO 8573-1 Class 0 certification start in the teens of lakhs and rise sharply with capacity.

Times Marketing supplies three Atlas Copco oil-free ranges:

  • SF 2–15 scroll compressors: ultra-quiet, compact units for laboratories, medical facilities and small clean-air applications
  • ZT 30–90 oil-free screw (air-cooled): mid-range industrial oil-free air
  • ZR 45–900 oil-free screw (water-cooled): heavy-duty, large-scale Class 0 air, with ZA/ZD centrifugal options for very large flows

A practical caution: “oil-free” on a cheap listing does not always mean certified Class 0 air. Ask for the ISO 8573-1 class in writing before comparing prices.

Air Dryer, Air Filter and Air Receiver Prices

Many buyers budget only for the compressor and then discover that their air is wet, oily or unstable. A complete compressed air system usually needs three more components.

Air dryer price

Compressed air carries moisture that condenses in pipes, rusts valves and spoils finished products, especially during the Indian monsoon.

  • Refrigerated air dryers bring the pressure dew point to around +3°C and suit most general manufacturing. Small units for 20 CFM are listed from about ₹20,000–₹40,000, mid-size dryers sit around ₹45,000–₹1 lakh, and larger branded units can cost ₹1.5–₹2.2 lakh.
  • Desiccant air dryers reach dew points of -40°C to -70°C for pharma, food and electronics. Small heatless desiccant dryers start at a few thousand rupees for point-of-use units, and a 100 CFM heatless dryer is listed at about ₹86,000. Heated and blower-purge designs cost more but use less compressed air.

Times Marketing supplies Atlas Copco refrigerated and desiccant air dryers, along with membrane dryers for point-of-use applications.

Air filter price

Line filters remove dust, oil aerosols and fine particles. Individual filter housings are relatively inexpensive, but replacement elements are a recurring cost. Times Marketing supplies Atlas Copco general-purpose, coalescing, activated carbon and silicone-free filtration.

Air receiver tank price

An air receiver tank stores compressed air, smooths out pressure swings and reduces how often the compressor loads and unloads. Price depends on volume, design pressure and certification. Times Marketing supplies Atlas Copco air receivers, including HTA-style receivers, plus water-cooled and air-cooled aftercoolers.

Rule of thumb: budget an extra 20–50% of the compressor price for the dryer, filters, receiver, piping and installation.

Purchase Price vs Lifetime Cost: The Number That Really Matters

The purchase price of an industrial air compressor is usually the smallest part of what it costs you. Electricity typically accounts for 70–80% of a compressor’s lifetime cost, with maintenance and the original purchase making up the rest.

An illustrative example

Take a 30 kW (40 HP) screw compressor running two shifts, about 6,000 hours a year, at an average 85% load. At an industrial tariff of ₹8 per kWh:

30 kW × 0.85 × 6,000 hours × ₹8 = roughly ₹12.2 lakh of electricity every year.

Over ten years, that is more than ₹1.2 crore in power, against a machine that cost somewhere between ₹4 lakh and ₹15 lakh depending on brand and specification.

Now imagine your air demand swings through the day, as it does in most plants. A VSD compressor that cuts energy use by even 20% saves about ₹2.4 lakh a year in this example. At the full 35% savings Atlas Copco rates for VSD+, the figure rises to over ₹4 lakh a year. In many cases the price difference between a fixed-speed and a VSD machine is recovered in one to two years.

Hidden costs of a cheap compressor

A low quote can become expensive through:

  • Lower real FAD than claimed, forcing you to buy a second machine
  • Higher specific power (kW per CFM), which inflates the power bill every month
  • Short service intervals and costly non-genuine parts
  • Unplanned downtime when parts are not available locally
  • Moisture and oil carry-over damaging tools and products

When you compare quotes, ask each supplier for the FAD at your working pressure and the specific power figure. Those two numbers tell you more than the price tag.

How to Get an Accurate Air Compressor Quote

You will get a sharper, more comparable quote if you share the right information upfront. Before you call any supplier, note down:

  1. Total air demand: the CFM or m³/min of all tools and machines that run at the same time, plus a 20–30% buffer for growth
  2. Working pressure: the highest pressure any connected equipment needs
  3. Duty cycle: hours per day and whether demand is steady or fluctuating
  4. Air quality: whether you need oil-free air and what dew point your process needs
  5. Power supply: voltage, phase and available load at the site
  6. Space and cooling: floor area, ventilation and ambient temperature
  7. Existing equipment: if you are replacing a machine, its make, model and running hours

If you do not know your air demand, a site assessment can measure it. Oversizing wastes money on every unloaded hour, and undersizing forces the compressor to run flat out until something fails.

The right compressor is the one that delivers the air your plant needs at the lowest cost per year of operation, not the one with the lowest invoice. Piston compressors are the economical entry point for intermittent duty. Screw compressors pay their way in continuous operations, and VSD models usually earn back their premium through lower power bills. Oil-free machines are essential where air quality cannot be compromised.

Your next step is simple: list your tools, their air consumption, your working pressure and your daily running hours. With those four numbers, any supplier can give you a quote you can compare honestly.
